The Lonely Tavern
The lonely tavern admired the calming sunrise as he awaited his customers. One by one they would pile in each and everyday, lured in by the homely smells of the tavern's delicious food. Mesmerized by the crispy rich pies overflowing with creamy chicken fillings. Bewildered by the oozing sweet caramel sauce of the sticky toffee pudding. Vanilla ice-cream with hints of raspberry flakes flooded the customer's mouths. The froth from the golden glowing beer smothered the visitors' faces and roars of laughter and cries of joy echoed round its cosy candle-lit walls. The fireplace beaming with her ginger embers stood as the centre piece of the tavern. Shutting out the bitter winter, she held refuge for everyone and anyone who came by. In her undying memory she held stories of near and far and brought people to life again with her beckoning joy. Despite the tavern's separation upon the hill and his absence in the village of the valley, he was admired by everyone. The poor and the rich, the young and the old, the travellers and the villagers. He was loved by everyone, the not so lonely tavern.
